Earthsong Drumming

Earthsong is famous for its large drumming sessions, up to 200 people gather for the evening drum in the Big Top. Using Djembes, Bougaraboos, Sabars, Dun Duns, bells, shakers and our voices we put together powerful polyrhythms from Africa. We chant and dance and create a truly wonderful tribal sound. Also weaving intention and magic into the rhythm the effect can be exhilarating and life affirming.

Also on the drumming and singing program are...

Beginners Drum with John Bowker

Absolute beginners absolutely welcome!  John has been teaching and researching the hand drum for over 20 years. He brings his great sense of humor and deep understanding of the drum to facilitating large groups in exploring wonderful rhythms and chants from the tribal cultures of planet earth.

Rainforest chants

Drawing on a rich resource of music and song from central African rainforests John leads the group into a deep and sacred space. Learn some extraordinary harmonies weaved with teachings of the earth. Johns friendly teaching style encourages everyone to participate, creating a safe space for all, even those of us who feel we 'cant sing'.

Sound Healing with voice, Advanced Sasa and Gong Bath with Chrys Blanchard

Chrys Blanchard in the Garden with Gongs

Chrys is a freelance, composer, choir leader and percussionist, whose professional work calls upon the great diversity of skills she has acquired after more than 30 years in the performing arts. She creates and directs projects, training and workshops for education, theatre and community.

Chrys has a passion for sound and for rhythm with a particular interest in sound healing, and the effects of sound and music in our lives. This makes for some interesting voice work, focusing on listening to the quality of the sound we make as a group, and playing with texture and style. Quirky rhythms and clapping patterns from many cultural sources add to the richness of the experience. Chrys also creates Gong baths and Soundscapes where you can immerse yourself in deep sound relaxation.

Daniel Leufer; drum facilitator on dance campGuinean Village Drumming with Daniel Leufer

Since 2010 Daniel Leufer has been traveling to West Africa studying in Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso and Guinea. Among his teachers there was the famous Fomoudou Konate,

Daniel is recently returned from a 4 months trip where he spent 2 months in Baro, a village in Upper Guinea famous for dununs, studying one on one with the master Mansa Camio and then  travelling to Conakry the captial with Petit Mamady Keita.

His workshops are recommended for advanced players who wish to deepen their understanding of djembe and dunun music. In the workshop I will focus on the traditional, village style of djembe and dunun playing which I studied in Baro. I will give full information about all the music and the culture of Baro. We will learn dunun phrases, variations, djembe solos, songs and how the different instruments interact. At the end of the workshop we will give a performance in the village style for the rest of the camp!
