Stone Circles 

Scattered across Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales are the remains of more than a thousand stone circles and many more standing stones and ring Cairns. Dated to between 3 to 7 thousand years old they are amongst the oldest surviving structures to be found on planet Earth. They are shown to have been built using sophisticated geometry in complex alignments with sun and moon and stars.

Used as spaces of ritual and celebration it is likely they were designed to potentise and enhance any healing or spiritual work by creating a harmonious and magical sacred space, an engineering and focusing of natural forces and power.

The beginning: building our first Stone Circle in 2001

In 2001 the Tribal Spirit Drummers of Ireland commenced work on building a stone circle at the Boghill centre in Kilfenora, Co Clare. Led by drum and voice facilitator John Bowker the drummers built the stone circle by hand using simple tools; levers, ropes, rollers and blocks of wood. The work was done sporadically on occasional work days over 3 years. Many different people from all over the world gave a hand and gradually the stone circle was built. 

Lessons learned in creating community music as a team with drums and voice were applied to the task, work was exciting and challenging. People were surprised how much fun the process of stone moving and working together as a community could be. Finished in May 2005 the circle has now been used for hundreds of gatherings and events and has become a much loved and treasured sacred place. Many have said how the handwork, rather than machine work, has created a very special feel to the stone circle.

Many of those involved went on to be part of setting up and running the Earthsong camps. Skills explored during stone circle building were then applied to setting up the structures and facilities of the camp.

Healing Drum 22nd-26th June 2012

Healing drum is back again this year with a 5 day camp in June.  This is a small retreat up to 50 people camping in a beautiful location in Co Clare on the site of the new stone circle.
